I think that it would be a mistake to try to get to Norwich on the first night.

The first night on a hire boat is, for me, the hardest. I can never remember where I put the milk or the tea bags when we piled everything on board. So I prefer not to have to cover great distances on day 1.

I'd recommend a gentle run upriver - it's really nice up there - but stop early, and then go up into Norwich on the next day.
