I normally use my mobile which is O2 as a personal wifi for the laptop. This worked well until we moved to Ferry Marina where we barely get 3G on O2.
Hence the purchase of the dongle on Vodafone. So we anticipate using the dongle infrequently of course when on the boat. We therefore went for a low monthly contract with a 30 day cancellation so if not down for a month or so we could cancel. I think the answer is Pay as you go.
The irony is, the Vodafone signal is not much better at Ferry Marina than O2. My sis-in-law is on Three which did not connect anywhere from How Hill through to Coltishall. O2 did but very poor at Ferry Marina.
My phone is dual SIM, the other one being Plusnet which rides on EE. I usually get a good signal with that in Horning. We have WiFi on our mooring in Horning, so only use the phone for internet when away from the mooring.
Horning is one of those places where phone signals vary so much. I used to be with Vodafone, but where we are on Grebe Island, it was very hit and miss, while others I know say they have no problems. EE works for us on Grebe, yet move a couple of hundred yards and it may not. My other sim on 3 is useless on the mooring.
