We all know that sat navs have a mind of their own but I have just tried to update my Tomtom Start and everything has gone haywire on their website. This is not the first time that this has happened. I find it a very lumpy and unfriendly website. It has locked my computer, messed up my wi fi connection and it has taken about an hour to sort it all out and I still do not know if the ruddy thing has been updated.

Has anybody else had problems?

TomTom MyDrive Connect - the software that runs on your PC to update / install maps - is broken.
It appears that TomTom's developers either don't care, or don't know how to fix the problem.

But don't worry if you depend on using your TomTom to navigate around Norfolk roads... it will continue to work... you just can't update it.

Best avoid the North east side of Norwich then as it will get very confused near the Norwich Relief Road!
(I have never dared putting my own updates into TomTom)

Thanks for that PizzaLover.

Tom tom keep sending me e mails wanting me to buy some of their expensive models. I dont think so if they cant be bothered to fix the problems with the cheaper models. That's a great advertisement for them isn't it?

My TomTom went and had a hissy fit a few years ago ... after which it constantly wanted updates and extra payments for stuff such as camera and mapping.... was then introduced by a friend an app for my mobile phone called 'Waze... installed it and gave it a try it's all free ... been using it ever since everything is free and runs perfectly ... updates are excellent for mapping and speed cameras... also traffic alerts are spot on...

Steve,

Hi to you & Tracey. Hope you are well.  I have a question ....

"Old Spice" - do you have a new boat?

Regards, Karen

If you have a smartphone have a look at the Sygic App which I think costs about £16. You get lifetime maps and traffic and it also turns your phone into a  dashcam and heads up display. I have used this for years and it is first class. Read the reviews and see what you think.

I still have and regularly use a Tom Tom One. I pay per year for four updates and the last few times have got messages saying that it won't update and offering showing me their range of new models. The thing is after a few issues some years ago their customer adviser told me to fit a bigger card which I did. This resolved the then problem and it still updates perfectly, the last one being late last year. I haven't tried to update it recently though.

Best Regards

Bob

I switched from TomTom to Garmin several years ago - free map updates for life of the device.

I've just looked at Waze. Needs Internet connection and is owned by Google. On the pre-install screen, I was told that the app has access to just about everything on my phone, including photos, contacts, the device's phone number, whether or not I was calling anyone and the number of the person I was calling. Google wants to take over the World!
