Hi

I can see a number of problems with this idea.

Getting a fast enough connection to stream TV pictures.
Having enough data allowance to stream TV pictures.
Getting a decent mobile phone signal to anything meaningful.

I'm with Three Network and do get a signal in many places but with just 1Gb of data I barely make 10 days of just doing my blog here on the Forum and getting emails. The wife is on Vodafone and generally doesn't get as good a coverage, but usually gets a signal were I do not and visa versa.

If your going to be on a hire boat almost all have TVs you can use on freeview some even have Satellite TV.

Hope that helps.

John.

Hi Aquaholics

Overall I would say yes, quite a lot of of places now get 4G instead of just 3G so streaming is possible. This year I'm going to try my Apple lightening to HDMI adapter with my iPhone to watch my BT TV via the BT App which means a big range of TVs channels.

During the last year or so most of the service providers have also up'ed their data allowances, for example my 3 account has gone up from 1Gb to 12Gb and dropped in price!

Coverage is still patchy though, so you'll still struggle in some spot. Late last year I tried at Ranworth and it was useless.

John.

Hi

My wife is still on Vodafone, her coverage is not as good as as my Three coverage. But it is usually a case that one of us has a signal which is why we still use both providers.

We are now based on the Southern Broads (Brundall) with the boat but live in Stalham so we get a good idea of the signal strength across the northern and southern areas, so we've seen a general improvement over time.

A number of new phone masts have been installed or relocated over the past few months around the Broads my reception went from an occasional 1 bar to 3 one Saturday in November & I now get 3-4 all the time I do wonder why there is no publicity given one of the excuses for lack of investment was the "low numbers of customers making the cost nonviable" It took quite a bit of digging around on the internet via planning applications and even visual observations to find why service had improved.
Fibre Broadband has also been spreading with new green boxes springing up at several locations
