We are talking about different things. It was not a matter of file storage. I have got plenty of that. This was a problem with the installation of the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition. The update could not install because the SSD on the tablet was not large enough for all the files the updater had to store on a temporary basis. Once the update was complete it was no problem. So I did a clean install instead which is no bad thing and does not require as much temporary storage. I was just suggesting an alternative method to DaveR if his update would not install. The tablet is a Linx 1010. I prefer a Windows tablet to Android as it is so much more capable. The detachable keyboard is a real bonus too. Changes it from a tablet to a laptop and back. All this with instant boot and a touch screen. Maybe not the fastest processor in the world but I don't use a tablet for number crunching.
I came across another oddity associated with the Anniversary Update the other day. A student brought a laptop to the Ludham Computer Club with a strange problem. It worked perfectly, but just occasionally it came up with a black line down the right of the screen and a message saying that "Quick Access has stopped working". It searched for a solution, didn't find one and then carried on working normally. Now, Quick Access is a new feature of File Explorer and I looked at this but it was working normally. Then I discovered that the laptop (an Acer) had another program called Acer Quick Access and this program was not working at all. This was the culprit. It appears to only be installed on Acers and then not on all of them. If you tried to start it you got the black line etc.
I have not been able to find out what this program is supposed to do. It does not run on startup and only seems to activate randomly at wide intervals.
If it had been my computer I would have uninstalled it as it looks useless, but the owner was a bit reluctant. Acer customer support was not helpful. A few other people have reported this problem but I have not been able to find a solution.
Has anyone else seen this or has any idea what this Acer program is doing?
