Does watching the webcams use a lot of my broadband i.e Mb's or Gb's. I ask as I was watching the one at wroxham sat morning, but forgot to turn off and went out. Came home 4 hours later to it still watching the broads. So would I used a lot of my broadband?

Still on usage does youtube use a lot of broadband ie watching all the broads videos on there.

I have heard (others may be able to correct me if wrong) but if your ISP (e.g. BT) had you on a capped monthly usage plan, there should be a way to find out how much GB's out of your monthly allowance you have used and then see when to ease off watching videos/webcams.

Myself, I am not on a capped usage so I could have it on 24hrs and not fret as to usage and data.

I do know however a typical iPlayer program can use between 600MB and 1GB of data - so watching a lot of You Tube videos will use the same, depending if HD and their length and would say both iPlayer and You Tube would use more in terms of data than the webcam stream on the Broads.

Believe me we use to be BT on 10 whatever a month and those cameras do eat into your usage.    We now have unlimited use.    Another thing that can eat into your usage is Skype.     At one time a family member left theirs on and soon had a wake up call as to the cost.

I use a little free program called NetMeter. It's not very sophisticated, but can be set to warn you if you're approaching a set monthly limit (if you're limited, of course). It also displays instantaneous Upload/Download rates and gives daily, weekly and monthly totals.

Regards, Ray.

If it's neither here, nor there,
then where is it?

If you are a BT customer, you can check your broadband usage at any time. Go to www.bt.com/mybt Log in to your account then scroll down slightly to My Products. You will see the use meter listed under Broadband. It tells you how much you have used this month, your average monthly use and how much you have left (depending on the plan you pay for).

Hope this helps

I use Network meter it sits on the right hand side on win7 and you can monitor network speeds etc, no issues no ads etc and check there home page you can monitor other items on your pc.
http://addgadgets.com/network_meter/

Just checked the speed watching Barnes camera 250kb/s so 1meg every 5 sec.

Don't forget if you use network drives or play music over the tv from the pc your monitoring that will be included in the total.

Well I can't work out how I used 182 GB's in 22 days seams to be a hell of a lot.
Looked on BT as thats were I got the 182 figure from. I normally use about 25 GBs a month.
