Hi all. We own a property on the NE riverbank at Potter, up near the windmill. We often bring a few from our church youth group with us, and about every two years come up as a larger group.

In the past, we have hired a group of four: Mildene, Willow, Sunyside and another whose name escapes me (possibly Freshfields). Each chalet had at least two adults.

We will certainly go back to Riverside again for at least three cottages, but are there any private lettings nearer to our place (we are Manderley)?

Well, I hope Mrs Danvers doesn't do her stuff!

Steve, I regret that you're unlikely to find riverside properties closer to "Manderley" to hire privately.  The River Thurne Tenants Association Annual General Meeting, Saturday 27th October, might provide you with a golden opportunity to do some networking, though.  Full details of the AGM were posted to all members yesterday.

Thanks for the replies. I'm afraid I have never read the book, so your reference is a bit wasted on me! However, the boat we bought at the same time as the cottage is called Rebecca, so the previous owners were obviously fans.

Expilot, we are in the area during the week running up to the AGM for the first time since we bought the cottage, so you might actually see us this year...!

Thanks again, guys.

FYI Steve, Mrs Danvers was the jealous housekeeper who burned Manderley down and Rebecca's body was retrieved from a sunken boat. Somehow they're not en=ven anmes I'd have though a fan would choose.

BTW, if you prefer a visual portrayal rather than reading, if you get a chance to see the Wilfred Josephs opera of Rebecca, it is superb (and I'm not even normally an opera fan).
