Hi, We are interested in a Freeman 23 £10,950, it has a proper toilet, but no shower.. Any idea's on a rough price for getting a shower installed..

Fitting the shower shouldnt cost a lot, the major coast will be in waterproofing the room. Dave
if it is to be it is up to me.

Hi All We say do as much research as you can and ask as many people as many questions as you can. As it has been mentioned retrofitting a shower can be difficult as a lot of boats had the waterproof cubicle put in at manufacture before the top sides and the hull where joined together. It is much better to pump out the grey water from the shower tray rather than the bilge. Not as straight forward as it looks in our opinion. Regards Marge and Parge

Unless there was a shower tray already fitted I don't think I would risk retrofitting one into a smallish boat . As we know to our cost water has the habit of seeping to all sorts of hidden places and the rectification costs can be horrendous Graham

Are you sure about fitting a shower in a Freeman 23? It has one of the smallest toilet compartments of any boat; you'd need to be a contortionist to use it. You'd be better off forgetting the shower and dipping your bits in the sink.

Yes, we have looked at a few boats that fit into our budget, whats wrong with that !!!...We are obviously not as well off as alot of you, some make that very clear on here...Its not our fault we have missed out on most of the boats we have viewed.. But now we think we will stick to hiring, far too many them, and us on here for our liking..

Hi I’ve updated quite a few boats over the years including WC’s/bathrooms. Refitting yes quite straight forward, retrofitting much more difficult due to having to waterproof the compartment. We’ve had both forms of shower drains, into the bilge and into a separate box and then over the side. I much prefer the ‘into the bilge’ as this results in nice smelling cleaner bilges and of course it dilutes and muck in the bilges going out, win win. Only thing is I would fit an in-line strainer in the shower drain to catch the hair etc getting to the bilge pump and blocking it, or check it more often than you do now.. I think you got it right in asking questions before you buy. Mind you a Freeman 23’ is a total different boat type to a DC30 !!! Try to choose a boat type and look for that type. Good luck with the search. I’d look a a Hampton 25, Bounty 27/30, DC30 etc. John. Edit typo Kind regards, John(Captain Joshie), Jo & Toby.

Hi Aquaholics There’s only one negative comment as far as I can see here. We’ve always been on a limited budget too . Never stopped us, started with a Microplus 461! And worked our way up and through various boats, Always buying a boat that I could add value to too buy the next boat up the scale, it worked well for us. Don’t miss out, it can be great fun. Just keep looking and. asking questions, I for one will, if I can, always add my thoughts willingly. John Kind regards, John(Captain Joshie), Jo & Toby.
