I always enjoy dropping in at Martham Boats but apart from that I can't think of a less appealing mooring spot than a hire boatyard! Handy for service or advice, but also risky spots to moor for those of us who cherish our paintwork or gel coat.

rather contradictory you do or you don't,it doesn't answer the original question,i get the impression it may be in an emergency as in late in the day,not every boat hirer can afford to buy a boat and i am sure the majority dont want to damage other boats

I don't suppose for one minute that any hirer would want to bounce off and damage another boat, least of all someone's pride and joy. But the harsh reality is that accidents do happen and hire boats tend to be big beasts. Hire boat yards do tend to attract a greater concentration of hire-craft.

hi there ,
we've always felt welcomed at herbert woods yard as a owner ,also the same at swan craft , have always offerd to pay for an over nite stay if we planning an over niter, but have been told not to worry about it , i also usaully find that if a hirecraft does come into the yard , yard staff are there to help them im ,myself included,

Switching the thread around a bit, though not the title.
It is one of the benefits of hiring that hirers can use other yards.
There was a time when hirers were told that they could "moor at any Blakes or Hoseasons yard"
I believe, pedantically, that wasn't quite true... since I think the permit to moor was related to the yard's membership of the Broads Hire Boat Federation.
But it was Good. No matter how full a staithe was, a hirer could use visitor moorings at a friendly boatyard.
Now that Blakes and Hoseasons are remote agencies, there is no longer an impression on the Broads that there are "Blakes or Hoseasons yards" to moor at.
If a hirer were to take a boat into Wroxham or Brundall, or Potter Heigham, what indication would they have that there were visitor moorings available in the boatyards?
I think that the BHBF needs to change with the times and start encouraging its members to
A) put up signs to show that visiting hirers are welcome, and
B) indicate on each boat that it is a member of the federation, and entitled to moor at a BHBF yard (when available.)

With regards to paying to moor at Herbert Woods, I also had to pay for the first time this year. It is also worth noting that they will not allow visitors to park in their car park under any circumstances. Only HW customers can park there and that does not extend to people paying to moor overnight.
For the last few years I have moored overnight at Herbert Woods during the 3RR and then been met by some friends in a car and we have driven around various vantage points to watch the race before returning back to the boat for the night. Did the same this year and as usual went to reception to enquire if it was ok to moor overnight. When it was established it was a private boat, I was told that this year there is a charge. No problem, but you have to go to the boat sales office and pay there. Went over to pay and then asked about parking to be told that they don't allow any visitor parking, only customer parking, and despite paying for a mooring we didn't qualify as a customer  Only customers of their hire boats. They did say that we could park in the Lathams car park overnight but we would have to pay. After many enquiries in Lathams we eventually found out that you can pay at the customer services desk for overnight parking. I can't remember the parking charge now, but still consider it money well spent to moor in the yard overnight safely protected from all those wild rag and stick merchants racing around

Does anyone know that hiring a boat from Herbert Woods entitles you to moor at other hire boatyards?
As Herbert Woods are not associated with Hoseasons or Blakes I wondered if you would be classed as a private boat and therefore excluded.

I am sure I saw a HB boat moored yesterday at Barnes Brinkcrafts yard on web cam.
