If stopping overnight on Loddon staithe it may be helpful to know, if the 16amp socket is already in use, that I do have an adapter lead (32 amp to 16amp) available for hire in Loddon Chandlery. The charge is £1.50 plus a £10 deposit returnable the following morning. I can make you up a similar lead if you are a regular visitor.

In response to a couple of PM's yes I have both Male and Female 16 amp splashproof sockets and normally have 10 metre 16amp to multi 13amp square pin socket leads if you don't have 240volt fixed wiring. I will be getting in a new stock of Artic Blue 16amp cable next week and expect to have 20 metre leads available thereafter.

If a 32 amp to 16 amp converter lead is used, then it is essential that a 16 amp fuse is fitted in the adaptor as most 16 Amp plugs have at best cables that are rated at 16 amps, although some are less, and require a fuse to be even fitted into the 16 amp plug, so beware. A fuse is there to protect the cable, if the fuse is rated higher than the cable, then the cable becomes the fuse, and in the event of overload then the cable could over heat, and catch fire, causing a hazard to persons, livestock and property. It is my opinion that using a 32 amp to 16 amp adaptor without a suitable fuse is in breach of the electrical safety regulations for appliances used and accessible to the public. Any incidents occurring from such use could render the user liable. So proceed with caution. The application is similar to a shaver adaptor that plugs into the mains, these are normally fitted with an internal 1 amp fuse to protect the cable on the shaver, without a fuse, then the full supply from the switchboard would be available, and this could be 30 amps, depending if it was on the ring main, (30 Amp) or on a spur(13amp).
best regards, Richard. I can't wait to be back on our boat on the Broads.
