Firstly, hi everyone, my name is Clive, and I am a new member. I do not ha ve a boat on the use until 3 years ago when I moved to Berkshire. Now my ex Richardsons of Stalham Ocean 30 is moored up just off the Thames at Weybridge. I was reading with great interest a thread from last November 06 on fitting an Airtronic. I fitted an Eberspacher ex. British Rail crew cab on my last boat, and I'd like to fit one on the Ocean but they are very expensive. Is anyone able to point me to a working unit complete with controls for sale at reasonable cost? I'm quite capable of fitting one to comply with BSS - it's just getting hold of one without going broke. (We run the old Ocean on a s/h shoestring!) I'd need around 2200w for two cabins or 3500w for all three cabins. My last one in our previous old boat was 7kw which was far to much - we cooked! Many thanks. BTW I really envy you lot boating on the Broads, my favourite place for boating anywhere. We spent many happy days years ago on the Broads, now it's up & down the Thames and that gets boring.

Ah, sorry about that, post went haywire as well I see, I meant to say I had a boat on the Great Ouse but PC got a bit stroppy and then everything froze up when I went to submit the post.

You could give ebay a try, the units on there are often ex BT transit or the like, unfortunately at this time of year they do tend to attract enthusiastic bidding but still good value. To get 2.2kw you will need a minimum of model D2 Eberspacher, the Webo units are 2.0 kw, 3.5kw & 5kw mainly.

Welcome Clive, Hope you find what you're looking for. As for the Thames being boring.... try boating around Birmingham's canals...now that's what I call boring. Regards from another Clive.

Thanks for the pm Chris, and for your advice as well Antares. I was at the Solent Boat jumble yesterday getting some new fenders and saw working Airtronics for £295, hooked up to a battery and can of fuel but baulked at buying one like a clot as SWMBO wasn't there to to confer with. I'll sweet talk her tonight! There is another Southampton jumble in November, I'll see if the guy is there again as he had a few for sale, but meanwhile I'll hunt down scrapyards with old Transits and see if I can get one that way.

Guys, thanks one and all. My Ocean 30 is 12 volt so 24 volt won't work. However, I've procured a 2001 model 12v Airtronic D2 for £200 including postage/packing which I think is pretty good. It comes complete with rheostat, wiring, pump, tank dip pipe etc. Can anyone mail me a photo of an insulated hull exhaust fitting? I'll make one in my workshop once I know what they look like as I see from an earlier posting that Eberspacher want £120 for one. They can shove it as it is only a skin fitting with an air gap around the exhaust pipe, how hard can it be? On my last installation I used compression fittings and 28mm copper tube, all thoroughly wrapped in heatproof insulation tape, it cost next to nothing and BSS were quite happy with that.
