Does anyone know the air draft of Broadland Orion? Particularly interested in whether it will go under Thorpe bridges as well as Potter Heigham. Thanks.
We hired this boat in October 2018 and found it very difficult to take down and put up. The canvass top needs super strong fingers and thumbs to put in place and each side piece has to be hinged down after releasing from the windscreen and rear fixings. We liked the boat otherwise but this alone has stopped us from booking it again as Richardsons insist it is lowered for all bridges including Ludham and this will not be pleasant in the rain.
Also you mention getting under Thorpe rail bridge. There are 2 bridges and the downstream side has the most clearance. A recent thread on here discussed whether you can still moor at The Green since the BA pulled out and it was thought that you cannot so not a lot of point?
Thank you for your comments, this has been very helpful. Way back in the 70's, as a family with my parents we hired Admiral from Brooms and the canopy appears to be similar. We also stopped at Thorpe Green on that trip for a visit into Norwich and a group next to us had not taken tides into account and had to overnight with an early start to return their boat by the next morning. So a close study of the tide tables is needed. Another question please, is the Yare impacted by air pressure to same extent as the Bure in holding back the flow of water.
To save going under the bridges, moor at Commissioners Cut, if you can as this is only about 500 yards from the Green. Its a bit further downstream but you can go over the footbridge by the old station and there is bus stop on the main road about 50/100 m up the road towards Norwich
