My two penneth worth...

I think some of the more slab-sided moulds from the 70's and 80's are often more spacious than their contemporary counterparts on the basis that the design is less about the visual appearance and more about practicality... Compare the interior space of an Alpha 35 Highliner to an AF Sapphire 32 (Seapilot type) and you will see what I mean - Still a good looking boat despite their advancing years, too.

Cost is a tough one. More kit goes into them these days but the cost of some items will have fallen relatively. I would have thought though that after you've taken inflation into account, that a boat built today would be more expensive than a boat built 20 years ago chiefly because of spec levels.
