Dear All, I have been holidaying (hire craft) on the Broads pretty much all my life and whilst i have enjoyed the odd success with Pike (largest 18lb from Rockland). Over the last few years all i have had is the odd one and only to 8lbs. Sadly this is pretty much the only week of the year I fish and with my Broads holiday rapidly approaching, I was wondering if anyone has any tips, advice or hotspots that would help me in my week long quest.  The most I have had in 1 week is 3, so any help would be very much appreciated.  Here's to the Broads!

Hi Stephan,I see that you don't live too far from me.About 30 miles further up the A41 from Bicester.
Pike on the Broads, northern rivers.I would suggest Barton Broad, mainly near to reed beds, medium red topped carp controller, small roach dead bait.Cast out and then employ the sink and draw method.Just a small weight towards 2 thirds the length between float and hook. And fish just over depth.I use barbless or microbarbed trebles.
Or try the same rig and just fish slighty more over depth, but static.Be observant, and never leave your rods unattended. We dont want damaged fish or wildlife.
One of the better spots would be close to any large overhanging bush or tree, particularly where boats cant go???
Late evening or early morning probably being the best times.
Also anywhere upstream on the Bure;from the Ant towards Wroxham,is good.If you stay overnight in a boatyard, give it a try there right by the boats/staithes.
Found some big perch around the Ant/Bure confluence, dragging aplug along the bottom(plus a load of twigs, and a rubber hot-water bottle) Cold though!so I chucked it back.

I tell my neighbors that we are going to the `Far-East` for our holidays.I do not tell lies;Norfolk has always been East of Bucks!

Pike fishing on the Broads is a shadow of a few years ago but even now, if I don't catch three in three hours then I reckon I'm doing something wrong! A few years ago thirty plus in a day was not unexpected, but those days have gone. A lot to be said of lure fishing!

Jenny Morgan,

Say 'yes dear' and be accused of being indecisive, be decisive and be accused of not saying 'yes dear'! Us men can never win.

hey steve..
i read about you wanting to catch a pike..
if you have a small rowing boat or dingy i would suggest you have a trip down to coltishall and have a drift around the corner using a small spinner with a bit of red fluff attatched to it. BUT if you dont have a small rowing boat or dingy i would suggest u stay at wroxham and about 10 or 11 o clock at night..hook an eel section to two treble hooks and cast under the old railway bridge...i have caught several pike under the bridge myself but coltishall is way better if you have a small rowing boat as it is jam packed with pike..some very small but the odd 1 breaking 15lbs

winter is best due to lack of boat traffic,if you want numbers livebait if you want good fish deads on the bottom  around the boat yards.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Caught pike at Wroxham (early in the morning) and just outside of Beccles. Lost a few on the spinner too.  Had good Bream and Roach catches at Thurne mouth, the same at Beccles and a decent Chubb at Beccles, all on double sweetcorn with flavour enhancers.

Wish I was going back soon!
