Hello again,

I was just wondering what the Anglers on the forum feel about people who 'mass groundbait' (for want of a better way to put it)?

The time before last that I visited the broads, I got talking to a guy who was unloading 6 bags from his car, each of which was the size of 52lb sacks of spuds.  He told me that it was groundbait for his weeks fishing!

Now, I'm not against groundbait, but surely this can't do the water much good.  Imagine if every angler was to do the same thing?  What do you think?

Cheers,
Craig.

I couldn't agree with you more, Craig...

My little 1kg bag of groundbait lasts a couple of months, as I just fire off the odd ball of it over my swim to help the fish find my hook in the murk.

I prefer the 'Jack Hargreaves' approach, rather than damming the river with groundbait so that you can shovel out a load of obese fish..   Smile

It was Billy Lane from Coventry who was the world champion match angler that started this craze for huge ammounts of ground bait. For a three hour match he would use 100 lb or more. Happily many still waters now ban it altogether and a good thing too. My two favourite places are the lake at Blemheim Palace and the lake at Coombe Abbey. They have had a ban for as long as I can remember and they both fish very well. All I ever use is a few samples of the hook bait scattered in the swim. Cheesy.
