Hi
Broadland Memories gets a review by Greg Chapman in March / April Anglia Afloat. As might be expected he is severely lacking in his research and an email could have answered his questions, indeed a read of this thread would probably have sufficed.

I find Greg Chapmans review pedantic and super critical. I feel he fails to appreciate the hundreds of hours that go into the research and preparation of pictures and text. Perhaps he is mistaking Carol as a professional web designer.

For someone to learn about web design and hosting this web site as a first attempt is quite astonishing. Well done Carol.

In the future when the software used is upgraded a mark 2 site is envisaged where it will be possible to enlarge the pictures.

For me content will always be King. Keep up the good work.   Smile

Just been enjoying the 1970's photo gallery on the site - it's fantastic! Fascinating mixture of stuff on there. Lots of the Broads has changed - but lots of it is exactly the same. Even some of the boats are the same - there are pictures of a Hampton 25 & a Bounty 37.

I totally agree with all of the comments supporting Carol. It is a great site and so enjoyable... I imagine it must have taken a huge number of hours to put together.

Greg Who?  I wonder why he even bothered to review it, if he just wanted to be critical! Maybe, despite his pedantry and criticism, it will encourage some people to take a look. Smile

Hi

Many thanks for all your support!  Cheers

It wasn't all bad though .... he did actually encourage others to add their photos and memories to the site and I am quite chuffed that I merited "Featured Site" in this issue even if he was critical! All publicity is good publicity, as they say.

As fendoff said, a simple email to me would have answered some of his questions and would have enabled me to point out that I have limitations, both with me being totally inexperienced in creating a website, ans also limitations within the web design software that I use.

It is just one man's opinion, if it encourages others to go and have a look then they can make up their own minds.

Thank you all for your kind words, it is much appreciated!  Smile

Carol

Don't lose heart, Carol, your site is very good, and improves each time you add further articles and photo's to it.  Well done, and remember that this is the same Greg Chapman who criticised this forum for not being "pretty" some time ago.  His criticism doesn't seem to have had any detrimental effect here! Smile

Well thank you Greg Chapman. I probably wouldn't have known about this without your review and the consequent reaction on the Norfolk Broads Forum.

In a time when the quirky and interesting is being swept away at an alarming rate, thank goodness that someone is prepared to spend their time capturing the images and stories of our recent past before these things are lost.
