Add To Ignore List

I've just spent a relaxing few days on the Broads and thought I would share with you a few of the pictorial memories I have, which are my antidote to the stern-on-moorings-lack-of-waste-bins-BA-grumbles that can divert attention from what the Broads are really about.

There was a herd of roe deer moving about in the long grass of the marsh beside Fleet Dyke. This one came close enough to get a shot at it...of the digital kind  Smile

Although much of the water fowl have moved into the soke dykes, there is still much in evidence.

This family was discretely tucked away in the recesses of Salhouse Broad. There was a Great Crested Grebe nest, well hidden, just a few yards away.

This one was taken along Womack Dyke, but Reed Buntings are everywhere.

The Reed Sedge Warbler's song post was about 30 feet away from us, at the Womack Dyke mooring. For such a little bird, they are unbelievable noisy  Mad  Particularly when you're trying to take a nap!

Whoops! I've just been very politely corrected by pm - this is a sedge warbler NOT a reed warbler.

These next three were taken on the Ludham Nature Reserve. Well worth a visit. More of that later.

I thought about using this one as a quiz question, but it's one of those things - you either know what it's called, or you don't.

The plank is called a ligger and it's very commonnly used on marshes to provided a semi-permanent footbridge over dykes. They don't intrude on the landscape and, once removed, leave very little trace of their existence.

And finally...

How can you not love the Broads?
