Hi Ormesby,
I think you find you won't get particularly good images off Standard 8 film whatever you do - the image is so small c6x4mm (as compared with 36x24mm for 35mm film - Cine gets away with the poorer quality because the film shows movement, and you only see each image for 1/16 second - both combine to mask the actual quality of the image.
But as a way of watching all your old films again - transfer to DVD would be the best option these days and you can certainly capture stills from DVD in a computer

What's the date of the photo from the apartment - looks quite a time ago, from the colour scheme of the Caribbean
