Bit curt at the end there. So I was breaching the TOS asking that question as I should have already known the answer? and as a result of that even the question gets deleted...well sorry I did not read that in the TOS, and there I may be at fault. but this could have been dealt with very simply with a reply, rather than deleting a post that just posed a question.

Well I guess it's fair to say that if your post has gone, the answer was obvious - that the subject was deemed inappropriate. That's part of the TOS.

We saw your post this morning and between the mod team ( all just people giving their free time in amongst the rest of their day ) we discuss and agree.  If an amendment to a post  is all thats required, we may contact the member first, but we do reserve the right to take whatever action we, or Richard, the site owner , feel necessary.

Please don't be offended that we didn't get chance to write you a personal message - perhaps it was assumed that as you'd actually asked if it was ok or not , you would accept that a deletion meant it wasn't.

We do try our best on this forum to allow as much as possible , and I hope you'll agree that we have allowed your difficult situation to be aired and members have given lots of advice.

Karen

Yes I understand perfectly.

But no I did not guess that the deletion of my post (question) was to be taken as an answer to the question.

On my part I should have read the TOS in detail

And I thank you for 'allowing' me to air our experience with buying a boat.

Mmmmmm I know the mods do a very good job and normally I think they get it right, on this occasion I feel they re acted badly, had the OP put on a link to a funding site that would have been against the TOS, asking if he could should have warranted a reply. The TOS mentions not posting any revenue generating link, he didn't, the area around that term seems to be applied on a case to case basis (I've seen many members selling items on here including boats) this member took the time to post a question asking for clarity and was met with a deletion then a rather terse reaction from the Mod team when he questioned that. 3/10, could do better!

if it is to be it is up to me.

Nothing wrong with terse ("...the word terse itself doesn't mean unfriendly or rude. Synonyms are succinct or concise...")

The post was deleted by 'someone' and an apology was given that the OP wasn't given a private message of explanation. As the question was one that only Richard or, possibly, a moderator could give an authorative answer to, it would have been better if the OP had used the messaging system, rather than advertising the crowd-funding page in such a contrived way - breaking the ToS without breaking the ToS, if you see what I mean.

Thank you Paladine, for clarity the decision taken was a unanimous one from the top down.

For further clarity , and as a little reminder - this forum is set up, run and freely provided by the site owner Richard , who allows us -  all of us -  the opportunity to post opinions, share knowledge, offer help and guidance or simply chat. Other people like myself give their time freely to help keep things running smoothly and within the TOS.

Some topics can be a bit difficult particularly those where complaints about services are aired, and specifically if a business is named. It can be even more difficult with a new member who has no established presence and so represents a completely unknown aspect. Hence my comment that in this particular case , we had allowed the new member to fully raise and air his issues.  Seems my use of the word "allowed" hasn't exactly gone down well. If however I have misunderstood  this, then I apologise in advance.

As for anyone being unhappy with the service we've provided I can only suggest that when they've paid for something then a complaint might be valid.

I speak with a mods knowledge and background here but am expressing my personal opinion.

Evening all, Karen

I did not advertise the actual fund raiser? I mentioned the crowd funding in relation to the question, with a very brief explanation of what it relates to and why.

I do not think I mentioned the crowdfunding site did I?, though I can not be certain on this as it is deleted and I was not expecting to have to defend myself so did not keep a copy of the post/question. If I did mention the actual site then I apologies that would have been a mistake on my part, though was still not a link to a site or link to our fundraiser.

Maybe a direct message to a MOD re this would have been better, however I created a post in Forum FAQs asking what I thought was a reasonable question.

I understand that if I had posted something that breached the rules then a deletion is valid, but posting a question regarding something that is not allowed, and that being deleted seems somewhat odd unless I did advertise the fundraiser in a contrived way, though if that is the case then I unknowingly did that.

And as a result of me questioning the deletion of a question, (I received no answer, until I pursued the deletion) this debacle ensues.

Whilst here I have been brought into question not only as a member but also my integrity has had doubt cast on it, constantly reminded that I am new here, though this is not taken in to account regarding any mistakes I may have made. I have been spoken to in a manner that befits a class system, and been made to feel that I am on a lower rung and should be grateful that I am even allowed to participate.

I have not paid to access this forum.

Given all of this, I feel it best that I no longer participate.

I do thank 'everyone' for their support, time and advice, especially those who PM'd.

I wish you all success going forward in whatever you are doing.

I must add, I am not trying to be divisive here, this is not a grenade I am throwing into the mix and walking away from, I am just expressing myself.

Another valuable member lost. Many folk were more than happy to read and have input on what was an interesting post. Rare, these days. I really think this could have been handled differently but the decision makers are quick to defend their actions. whilst personally I agree that this site is not  a platform for fund raisers of that type , I feel many of the other points raised by Alan are valid .
