Mod Hat firmly off, kicked into the corner - posting 100% as a member and to hell with it.

quote:"......
Is there now a new TOS rule banning moaning?
If so that will cut the posts on here by half.
......."

And if we create a new TOS rule to ban misogynist, petty, snipping little trolls with nothing of merit about them we could cull the deadwood non-contributory membership by a healthy amount too.

Be careful what you wish for.

Far too often the views or opinions of members who are trying to debate matters on here are derailed by a twisted misrepresentation or purposeful repositioning of the facts in order to validate and portray an attacking post as some insightful, kinder received wisdom. Well, guess what? It doesn't work it just upsets people.

A quick look at some of the members who are so horrified  that they felt the need to raise the question of 'Mod Power' in this thread will quickly reveal that the vast majority of their tiny contribution consists of snipping or veiled attacks. They provide nothing of substance to add to the pool of knowledge. no insightful analysis, no tongue in cheek debate!

Posting inflammatory and digressive, extraneous, or off-topic posts with the intent of provoking members into displaying emotional responses and normalizing tangential discussion isn't clever or useful or needed - it's wasteful and pathetic.

If you want to be a contributing member then pick a subject, start a post and get a thread running on a subject that you can bring something tangible to. Otherwise move on and stop riding the backs of people who do have a strong opinion or position because you 'can't agree' or you 'fail to understand'. That isn't a license to have a go at people individually or tag them collectively (EG moaners).

For all those members on here that this is going to rile up - good - not nice to be targeted is it?
Why not think about what you post before you post. You can be constructive, inflammatory, even divisive - just be nice about it. I suggest you all look in the mirror and hope you can see a better person in real life looking back at you because as sure as hell you're a waste of humanity in your forum form.

Oh, and for good measure; coming from a military background, if you ever spoke to me like that in real life i'd knock you into next week.

For those who don't accept the conventional wisdom of the internet which is to 'not feed the trolls' and try to debate with them - consider this, the more you feed them the more s**t they produce.

It's not a case of don't feed them - it's a case of cull them before they breed.

Right - bring it on!!!

Brief response from me as working this afternoon. The forum admin & Richard have up to now always said that mods are members who can express their views under their forum identity, and any comments in a moderator capacity are best noted as such. You will note therefore that I made it clear when my moderator hat was being worn. Further , gents, please try and fully read what I have said before (what comes across as) seizing any opportunity to attack my moderator status and comments - I clearly said my mod comment was with any members being labelled as moaners because of their views.

Thank you Paladine for your ever present attention to detail
and thus correctly noting,  and pointing  out what I had said !

Mike I should hope that with a military background of which I and my family all come from , I should hope that you would not resort to violence even though at times you may feel like it and more than likely be justified for carrying it out.   It gets nobody nowhere.     Deep breaths everybody.

Hi Hylander, sorry if that's too strong for you but I'm not from the fluffy bunny, there there, brigade. All responses would be measured. Rule of minimum force Wink

I'd love to debate the microsociological analysis of military violence in noncombat situations with you sometime. Perhaps we could start a thread and bring some interesting and thought provoking discussion to light.

Or i could be a troll, take offence and have a pop at you - i know which i'd prefer to engage in Smile

BTW what arm of the forces - always pleased to meet a fellow veteran. My family has four generations of military going back to my grandfather who was a rear-gunner flying in Avro-Lancasters & my great grandfather who was a Pipe-Major in the Royal Scots.

Breathing deeply btw Wink

Eloquently put, Mike. Totally agree with everything you said. As for the subsequent 'turn the other cheek' claptrap, all that does is get the other cheek slapped. If the 'brave' keyboard warriors on here were to speak to people like that in real life, I fear they would probably end up in A&E post haste.

Over the years, the Mod Team have had to deal with a plethora of ill-mannered, self-obsessed, semi-evolved simians with zero positive contribution and we're pig-sick of it.

If you cannot or will not stay civil on this site, please feel free to sod off elsewhere with your ill-advised vitriol. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.  Mad

Thanks,

It had to be said Dibs,

The premise of “don’t feed the trolls” implies that if you ignore a troll, they will inevitably get bored or say, “Oh, you didn’t nibble at my bait? Good play, sir!” and tip their cap and go on their way. Ask anyone who has dealt with persistent harassment online, especially women: this is not usually what happens. Instead, the harasser keeps pushing and pushing to get the reaction they want with even more tenacity and intensity. It’s the same pattern on display in the litany of abusers and stalkers, both online and off, who escalate to more dangerous and threatening behaviour when they feel like they are being ignored. In many cases, ignoring a troll can carry just as dear a price as provocation.

Well no more - I'm going to call it where I see it.

It's not often you or I 'break out the big guns' to use the vernacular. But perhaps it's time to dust off the elephant guns and let the forum enforcers have a bit of free reign - as the iconic Elmer Fudd would say

"Shhh. Be vewy vewy quiet, I'm hunting twolls"

Is that a threat of violence because someone doesn’t agree with you? LOL

I am a long term lurker here, but signed up to provide some opposition to the agenda-driven posts that fill certain corners of this forum. Anti hirer/anti authority/anti paddlesports/god forbid someone else not on a motor boat using the rivers.

On numerous occasions I have done nothing wrong but to challenge certain members, who are obviously not comfortable being disagreed with in the kingdom in which they rule, which has unfortunately resulted in threats of being ‘moderated’. I am sure if we were agreeing with their viewpoint we wouldn’t face such threats.

It's good to see the self identication by those who clearly fit the profile.

lurker

noun
a person who lurks, in particular a user of an internet message board or chat room who does not participate.
