To be quite honest I don't realy understand the need for this post / reminder , when u consider that a missing persons thread is currently live n has not a lot to do with boating but does require the attention of forum members for obvious reasons  , I'm quite sure that members know the rules bit this is a discussion forum and as far as I know there is a category for none broads related items , yes threads go off topic but that will always happen n I dont seam to remember a reminder of this nature before, I just feel its a little heavy handed realy n rather unnecessary .

Hang on... I thought we could have discussions on other waterways as well as the Broads.
Can't get any more off Broads topic than that.

That was agreed...
We had a very heated discussion last year on that.

Please explain, just in case I have misunderstood your post.
I do occasionally get things wrong.

Well quite rare really, as I have a good memory.

best regards, Richard.

Just for clarification this is in general terms a Broads related forum not a boating forum, although boating threads are in the majority it is not their exclusive domain but for anything related to the Broads area in general.

As for non broads topics nothing heavy handed just that in the main season when the forum gets busy it helps if we don't get clogged up with non related items.

"Hang on... I thought we could have discussions on other waterways as well as the Broads."

Yes, another forum was created specifically for that purpose, after some discussion.

rickh, I don't see why you are connecting the sad case of the missing man with this thread. A moderator has already commented on that thread, welcoming the OP, and, had it been deemed inappropriate for this forum, I have no doubt that it would have been deleted.

We've had threads about missing dogs. I think the missing persons thread is more important.

IMO, the request not to go off Broads/off topic is not something to get excited about. This is, after all, a forum about the Broads.

hi all,
rustic , yes you are right , another section was set up for other waterways and other boating systems ,
"Not really the Broads
Inland waterways and boats, that Broads people might be interested in." but there has been a few non related water stuff been posted in there ,
rickh , nothing heavy handed, with new members joining all the time ,few of them will not know about this , so a gentle reminder or notification has been given out , with relation to the missing person , any group , forum etc , would do the right thing and help as much as they can , as a member posted up there , we have members up and down the country let alone around /on the boards who can keep an eye out ,
folks i apologise if i've offended anyone ,i was just doing my job / duites ,
sorry to all

Paladine for a start I did not wish to create a impression that the missing persons thread wasn't relivent or important clearly I didn't make myself clear on that but I thought I had , Jean n Brian with all respect I think this is ridiculous , obviously its not a boating forum but a broads forum the clues in the title, but wat I do object to is being dictated to re posts if there from outside the area but relivent to the broads wats the problem n that includes other waterways , some of  the longest threads on this forum hold only very slight links to Norfolk and are mainly about trips on other waterways .
If this is the way this forum is heading then Ill be dropping out completely n going else where , I agree that moderation is required as to what is said but to the topics as well that'd just stupid n if none finds the topic interesting or relivent the it will die a death anyway .
There wasn't this reminder last yr so why now ??..

Steve , ur job n ur duty ?? Countless times moderators should have stepped in last yr n didn't n this timely reminder as u put it  has never to my knowledge been done before so why now ? If anything its not new members that cause moderators to take action its existing members . Regarding the missing persons thread of cause its relivent iv said so , there is a place to put none broads items n moderators have the ability I think to move posts to there if they think its req ,this forum list a lot of members last yr n it will lose more if its seen to be heavy handed .

I would have thought, that given the paucity of threads on here these days, there is a case for encouraging input, rather than turning people off.

It was the implication in your first post to not being related to boating that I was referring to.
