Hi all. Slightly off topic, but moulded in the Broads, so perhaps of interest to some.... We were at Jones' Yard in St Ives today and got chatting to one of the guys about broads boats and how prevailant they are on the Fens, and in particular, how Jones' used to fit out broads moulded shells (he said they did a number of Safaris and a few Ocean 30 based boats). One of the strangest uses of an Ocean 30 hull however was a sailing - yes sailing boat - that they built on an Ocean 30 hull (AF30/Broom 30, as used in the Broom Ocean 30, Moonraker 30, Broom Skipper etc). I questioned it's stability in view of a fairly shallow keel, but apparently it's very heavily ballasted (he reckoned 3 tons but I'm not so sure myself). Anyway, they had her on the moorings so I had to go and look - and sure enough, it does indeed appear to be an Ocean 30 type hull! Very very strange as I thought this hull was a displacement hull so not really suitable for a craft of this type. Picture attached..... Best wishes, James.
