Hi Everyone, I'm looking for any information on a fleet of Whippet sail cruisers, 12 made in total, and made by Earnst Collins & Young in the 1930s. Any information would be very much appreciated. Keith

I think these were a cosy 2 berth circa 16 foot, an early pocket cruiser, remember seeing one moored at Coldham in the 90s but the one and only I’ve ever seen...

Thanks Turnoar, Just purchased, what we believe is Whippet 12 and were told it was the one at Coldham with the only other one is in the Midlands Whippet 4. Hope someone on the forum can remember anything about them as I have looked on the Broads boat list and seen #12 with no BA assigned number only sail number 297.

I had a look on Craig's database - click on the red "links" at the bottom of the page, then "boats of the Norfolk Broads" where you can search boat builders, type etc. There does not appear to be any whippet class boats on the Broads these days. But there is a little bit of info from the past registrations. And one old photo. How marvellous that you have such a classic original boat. I think it wonderful when anyone takes these old girls on and keeps them going. So thank you! And enjoy. Karen EDIT to add sorry I've just realised you have already looked at the database! Sorry. Was having a quick cuppa and swift read. It's called my quick Monday morning Broads forum fix. Lol. "Wind up the elastic band Karen - we're setting off!!"

Auxiliary propulsion? A pair of oars provided presumably as a quant would stick out above the mast!

Hi Karen, Thank you for the information. It looks as if the one I own is Whippet 12 but still digging to confirm and I believe it stood for years at Coldham so if anyone has any information on this it would be greatly appreciated especially if anyone can remember the registration number so that I can hopefully have the original number assigned. All the hard restoration work was carried out by Chris Cox to a very high standard so thanks to him I am now bringing here back to the Broads. The only other surviving Whippet that we know of is in the Midlands and is Whippet 4 (B287 - Midge) Regards Keith
