We're looking to buy a Freeman 24 and need a bit of advice on the following :-
1 )which engine is best or to be avoided?
2) are there any weak points to watch out for?

There are not too many about on the Broads so I'm searching from The Thames, The Severn and The Great Ouse areas with a view to hauling it up to Norfolk. Does anyone have an idea of haulage costs and crane-in charges on the Southern Broads?

Were looking for a tidy boat, substantially original and certainly not a project boat. Our budget should cover a good one but I've noticed there are huge variations in value condition with "fair" boats asked for at top dollar and seemingly excellent boats being offered at much more reasonable prices.

Ta in advance.

'Afternoon, Moderately_Slow ......

Can't help with answers to your two questions, but this is still available with Waterside Marine at PH:

Might be worth a look ?

Good luck with your search and all the best.

Thanks. It's on our list to view. It is about the most expensive on the market. The price differential may make it better to buy elsewhere and haul to The Broads. It might be due to the soft top conversion and replacement engine. We're intending to view another with a Ford Watermota and fixed roof in supposedly a similar condition.

Personally, I go for one with a new Nanni diesel over a 40 year old Ford petrol engine any day of the week.  Smile

Mine was a Freeman 23 Mk 2 Steve -  The "rounded " type.
I was looking at that type of Freeman but bought Pandora instead.

Once you own a Freeman, there is lots of info on Freeman boats either on the Freeman Facebook page or the forum,
http://freeman-cruisers.forumotion.co.uk ( No 24's on the for sale section at present)

Regarding moving a boat, Tony Anderson is your man, Freeman owner himself, and moves boats all over GB and Europe

I would not suggest a stern leg drive, shaft drive is simpler.
We have our Freeman Salhouse meet 27-29 July,  22's, 23s, 24s 26s 27s 28 will all be present to view and chat with the owners, you will be welcome to pop in (by car if no boat by then) We also have events on the Thames and the GT Ouse.
