In response and sorry it seems I am being cryptic, (probably down to old age) and some foromites have no idea what boats I am talking about. “Picken Jack” to modern eye’s looks like a houseboat, but, is in fact a fully fledged 18hp. Motor cruiser.  45ft long  and 10.6 wide she was built it 1927 by and for John Brooke, a six berther with three cabins with period fittings throughout apart from a modernized Galley (even got a boat safety certificate in 2012!

Doris, also a Brooke’s boat somewhat larger 65 foot 5 inches by 12 foot 6 inches.  Perhaps most notable for being a discrete temporary floating residence for Edward Prince of Wales and Mrs Simpson. Again fully mobile, I think, twin screwed with in later years a pair of Caterpillar diesels. Rather more a venue for lavish entertainment than just cruising about but moored on a secluded moorings very much the lap of luxury.

Shucks there is supposed to be a photo of Picken Jack and a line drawing of Doris but I can't s*****g well get them to attach Mad

As things seemed very quiet looked back in the archives, always a bit dodgy because they are so big the hamster gets lost, and goes to have a Martini lunch with Richard instead, but if you want to see more about Doris blue search on "Doris" in the "Boats" file setting it to "any time" Wink

Similarly there are entries under "Picken Jack"

Despite owners having been Forum members in times past nothing recent.  Likewise have we heard anything of BroadAmbition recently?

Looking around the archives as one does when there are not a lot of postings, I was saddened to find a photo of Picken Jack at Wayford in A very sad state hopefully this (from September 2017) is before the latest change of owner. If only it had been cheaper back when a few years ago.  Frown

Looking back in the old records I note that Edward and Mrs Simpson allegedly took Doris over to France, does anyone know anything more about this adventure and indeed how she got there?  One would have thought that given her low freeboard she could have hardly got there under her own steam.  Scared

A few years a go Picken Jack was at Swallowtail Boatyard. The last I was aware of there, was that they were planning to take possesion due to unpaid mooring fees. When she went I assume this had happened and the boatyard then sold her on. It's a shame to see her looking so neglected now.
