Anyone know the current status of those two Iconic Boats – ‘Doris’ & ‘Pickin Jack’.  I know that there were grand plans for restoration but then so many such plans, fall by the wayside.  Question

Have a look on The Vintage Boat Company website. There is something looking familiar for sale there but may not be either of the 2 you are looking for.

Not I think that, which looks like another 'ambition' gone wrong.  'Doris' I think was around perhaps on Oulton around 2012 and I think that 'Jack' was for a time being worked on at Womack.

Interesting in days of old when I was young and Noah was still tarring the bottom of his ark she used to park just upstream of the Yards on the Western bank which was rather fun because you could walk along the bank and peer in at the interior with it’s scaled down antique furniture, very posh.  That I think was alright out of season but a lot of damage was done to the Hull by hireboats hitting her, I well remember the horrid rending of plankswhen she was clouted by one of Brinks steel hulled Queens

Wasn't Doris bought by some guy at Oulton and moved there with plans to restore her. I'm sure I read that a few years ago.

Dave

if it is to be it is up to me.

A few weeks ago a boat that I was told was Picken Jack was sitting out of the water at Wayford Bridge Marina, looking very sad.

Indeed Dave and Doris took back to the water after a fair bit of work which seemed, this time to have been done properly, with plans laid but I have heard nothing recently.

That news of Picken Jack does not sound good, the last I heard there was talk of Colin Bullifant taking her/him under his wing but that was some time ago and she would have taken up a lot of space.  I guess his fleet and new builds are much better prospects.  If she is going down hill it's a real shame given the number of years, although little used, Cox's looked after it with obvious affection up at Barton Turf.

Bill I can bring you up to date on both!!

Doris owned by a guy at Ferry Marina in Horning and it is currently moored, and lived on , at the old Easticks yard just below Acle Bridge. He certainly still has plans to restore her, and I believe she is due to have some planking done, but as with all old boats, its a question in reality whether the restoration can keep up with the deterioration!

The news on Picken Jack is better - I understand she has just been bought and now moved elsewhere ( except I have forgotten where too !! ) and that there is money behind this and restoration due to start imminently - but I have heard that before I think!! Having said that I was chatting to someone who knows more than me and it does look to be on the cards. Biggish job but doable I guess.
