Hi! Having just been to a small boat club on the River Hull (East Yorkshire), I have just come across and ex broads hire boat. Looking in 'that database!', I wonder if her history could be confirmed by any member? She is currently being used as a trip boat on the River Hull and Driffield Navigation - a long way from home! Take a look at: http://www.canalcruises.co.uk and click on the 'School Trips' link for the best full picture. The owner says he bought her from the broads, from a yard near Wroxham - the closest match is E564 from Belaugh Boats. Any other ideas? Cheers, James.

James, You've certainly got the class right she is definitely the same class as Michael Belaugh E564 - According to my records there were 6 built on the Broads - E564, F432 (Fen Breeze) and H906-H909 (Grand Gem 1-4) Although I can't confirm it, I believe the 4 Grand Gems had their roof cut off and eventually returned to the Broads as Royal Gem (Q738/9) & Atlantic (Q761/2) - leaving 2 unaccounted for - if the colouring is original then E564 is the more likely, since Fen Breeze was grey in colour - the Wroxham link also as you say suggests E564 - I'll update said database Craig

Once again Craig, your database is superb! However, the current owner did say he bought it 'ex hire' from a hire fleet near Wroxham which did point me more in the direction of Belaugh boats and hence E564? What do you think? Cheers, James.

Wow you beat me to it - you edited your message as I was typing the last one..... The owner also told me that he has twice had it craned out and moved up the navigation to be the first (and I suppose second!) boat through the Driffield lock for over 50 years. Good old Broads cruisers..... nice to see a bit of Norfolk in East Yorks! Best wishes, James.
