Hi Craig,

Thanks for showing an interest. If you look at "Yare Sailing Club", public notices, there is an obituary of "Bill Jenner 1922-2005.
It say's that he was a member of the "Jenners of Thorpe " family, as refered to by Ray.
It also say's that he and his brother Jack started "Maidencraft" in the early 60's which seems to link them as the same family.
In the paperwork that i received with the boat are all the Broads Tolls back to 1995 when she was registered as "Miss Memory" £67.99. This year £195.68.
As you state this must have been the first year of private ownership.
Your knowledge is amazing, what do you do as a hobby.

I hope that this thread is not getting too boring but it is my first one, i'll learn.

MANY THANKS
MALCOLM

Hi, all,

Malcolm,

Yes, those dates were when my uncle owned her. I met Mr. Jenner on the river on his cruiser Moonglow, I'm pretty sure he gave his name as Jack. That craft is still listed under his name in the current Green Book of the NSBA, but this may be because he may have been a life member, and the info hasn't been updated? It must have been at least 5 or 6 years since our meeting, and I haven't seen him on the river since. Moonglow is still moored along the river near Thorpe.
As with all family businesses, from an outsiders view, the machinations of break-ups and re-formations can be totally baffling, and nigh on impossible to unravel.

Regards, Ray.

Sunchaser,
I was very interested to see your post.

In the early 1970s my wife and I holidayed on the two Maidencraft Hampton Safaris, Miss Merrymaid(Y29) and Miss Memory(Y55) a number of times

We hired them from Maidencraft, which was run by the Jenner Brothers. Of the two, I preferred Missmerrymaid(Y29).

I saw her again at Beccles a number of times from January 2004 onwards, and was disappointed when she wasn't there on my last couple of visits.

She was a lovely boat in 1972, and even better nearly 40 years on. Look after her & if you ever want to sell her, please let me know.

I've put a few pictures onto my photosite at:

Best Regards, DaveL

Dave,
Thanks for your input, she has had a major refit which i hope will keep her going for a few more years.
Would be sad to have to sell her, so my good wife has got to work a bit longer.

ALL THE BEST

MALCOLM

Hi Sunchaser - just to let you know Miss Memory was built by Maidencraft of Thorpe as was Miss Merrymaid, they were then ran in the hire fleet from thorpe as 'sister ships'. Maidencraft was owned by Jack ( my grandfather ) and Bill Jenner who started the buisiness - thier father owned Jenner's of Thorpe, but this business was sold long before Maidencraft was started. Jack and Bill Jenner then sold the business in approx 1988 and it continued to operate under the Maidencraft name. I am sure you will see Jack Jenner on the water, as he still cruises in his Bermuda ' Moonglow' from Thorpe at the grand age of 90+ , if you see him I know he would be happy to discuss your boat with you.
Best wishes
Simon Jenner

Thanks Simon,
Little pieces of interest keep coming together, will be up Norwich way soon and will keep a look out for "Moonglow".
Wish him many more years on the river.
All the best.

Malcolm
