For the funniest examples of 'difficulties' whilst boating on the Broads read Michael Green's super book The Art of Coarse Sailing. Though written in the late 50s or early 60s it is readily available as a recent reprint. It is an absolute classic for anyone sailing on the Broads but motorboaters will love it too.
It really is about time someone turned it into a film or a TV mini series.

Our worst recently was to have a 'fan' belt let go on one of Faircraft-Loynes launches - when it started to shread in the engine compartment in the bows we wonder what on earth we'd hit then the almight bang when it actually broke - we were then stranded near Cockshoot, and didn't know if running the engine would do any further damage - the only time I've been pleased to have a mobile phone - F-L suggested going back to Ferry Inn - engineer came straight out then couldn't get the new fan belt on Gasp  spent an hour forcing it against the alternator to try and get it on him in the engine bay, me in cabin - that was a fun day Frown
