Hi all. After the collapse of Thomas Cook, our (Anne and I) October holiday to Menorca was gone, 1 week before we were due to depart, so what to do? We decided to check out our favourite place in the UK and scoured the websites on the Broads for an alternative. We found that the Ex Royall's boat "Royall Oak" was available from Barnes Brinkcraft so swiftly made a booking to have our week in the sun replaced, as it turned out, with a week in the rain, well almost, there were some good days. Holiday tale to follow with Pics, Videos, and music from me to follow shortly. John and Anne Women and cats do as they please..Men and dogs better get used to the idea!

Very sad looking Sutton Mill, hoping for renovation? It is a very pleasant 20 minute walk to the Mill from Sutton Staithe. The museum is closed so you can only view this wonderful 9 storey building from over the fence.

Tuesday 1/10/2019. We had booked "Royall Oak" from Tuesday to Tuesday for 7 days which meant travelling from our home near Bolton on a weekday so we set off at 05.45 to, hopefully, beat the rush hour morning traffic up the M62 to the A1M. We succeeded until Bradford where a stranded vehicle brought the motorway to a halt. "Smart Motorways"!!!! They only work if no-one breaks down in a live lane. The rest of the journey was fairly uneventful with comfort stops at Blyth(A1) and Swaffam(A47) before arriving at Wroxham and Barnes Brinkcraft at 12.30. The boat was not yet ready so we went for a mooch around Wroxham and lunch, to be phoned by Barnes to say the boat was ready at 13.45. We quickly returned to the boatyard, unloaded and had the handover completed. We were off!!! Women and cats do as they please..Men and dogs better get used to the idea!

The beautiful St Helen's Church, Ranworth. No, we didn't climb up to the top, the tea room was closed so we went to the Malsters for a pint instead!! Women and cats do as they please..Men and dogs better get used to the idea!

"Royall Oak" looks in superb condition and also looks like a high quality boat which is hardly surprising given its origins. Lovely looking boat!

Hi Trevor, yes, she is a super boat but, there were some small dints and bangs that do not show up on the photos, something I am sure Royalls would have rectified very quickly. This did not detract from the overall good experience we had on her (bowthrusters rule...yeah). I was told by a yard employee that she has been sold to a private buyer, presumably at the end of the season. Brinks now have 8 very similar and very new boats called Brinks Serenade which looked very smart. https://barnesbrinkcraft.co.uk/our-boats/detail/brinks-serenade-class/# Women and cats do as they please..Men and dogs better get used to the idea!

It was our intention, after picking up the boat, to go through Wroxham Bridge and up to Coltishall but, due to spring tides and heavy rain, no hire boats were passing that way, and hadn't for several days. So we set off for a gentle cruise down the Bure to spend our first night at South Walsham. Lovely quiet, comfortable night and a great "long sleep" after a very long day.
