Well what a day today was!
The Daughter said apparently on twitter(I don't do that sort of thing myself) Strictly come dancing judge Craig Revel Hallwood was around on a Herbert woods boat. Sure enough he came past heading down stream from Potter on a day boat with a camera man while we were having a brew.
This morning was Norfolk day so a walk up to Latham's as there was various stalls in the street. Paid a pound for five raffle tickets and won three prizes so that was good. Wifey bought some nice hand painted plant pots and bottles as prezzies.
Coffee and an obscenely humongous piece of cake from the café. Very full, very pigged out!
We sailed a gentle downwind run towards Thurne that halfway turned into a hard beat upwind. Robert had been given the mission of getting us there and coped very well with what myself and his twin brother (who sails at uni)had taught him.At Thurne it was Cider time and a Pinkster gin too, very refreshing. Had another Cammambert with rosemary melted in the oven with red onion chutney and baguette toasted slices with Chunky chips too.
After that the wind was gusting above our limited experience so discretion being the better part of valour we left the sail in the bag and motored down to Upton on waves like it was out at sea. We chatted with a few Water rats moored here to play their last night of the tour at Upton but we stayed here and had a use up tea and packed all but tomorrow's essentials for the morning. Sat watching the storm now before bed.Home tomorrow, very sad. We are so glad we took up sailing as it has given renewed enjoyment of the Broads as chugging on a motorcruiser got a bit boring to be honest. When the river is quiet and the sail is moving you along it is so peaceful.
I would urge anyone thinking of trying it out to go have a taster day somewhere. Last year we hired a sailboat plus instructor and qualified in a week. It was still less than a motorcruiser price and now we can hire a sailboat for half the price we used to pay. The extra dimension that has opened up is very satifying,to be using your brain to gain forward motion up the river is tiring but so much fun.
Tomorrow will be a very sad day!
