Hi all Has anyone any news on the redevelopment work taking place as we wish to visit in 3 weeks time and wondered if any extra security is in place yet.

regards john

Don't quote me on it, but my understanding was that they were just rebuilding the toilet and shower block due to subsidence. I don't think there was ever any plans to fence in the moorings, which is what is really needed.

My advice is to visit Norwich during the day and then pop down to Thorpe for the night. Good selection of pubs, much quieter road. If your really desparate for the nightlife of Norwich, I would still moor at Thorpe and get a taxi or bus into Norwich.

Is there a lot of trouble at Norwich YS ? We've only ever spent one night there.

In fact Thorpe has been the only place we've ever had any problems and that was just the once when some what would be today described as Chav types cast off a lot of hire boats. It was like being in "The Big Six" ! !

Hi all we stayed at Norwich YS on a saturday night a few years ago and had our mooring lines untied in the early hours and was set adrift then while making our boat secure again a boat of yobs came through the yacht station and through a powder fire extinguisher through the open door and the powder went all the way through the boat then they turned round and crashed into us waking up the family in a house opposite the yacht station we then spent from 4am till about midday with the police we wanted to press charges with the police but the crown prosecution service wouldnt take the case up so we have never gone as far as norwich since.

Hello all,

As far as I know they are still working on the yaught station. I usually get a bus from just outside the station however I've been on school holiday.

There is the occasional crusing of the rib on a saturday and Friday night - nice blokes in a rib patrolling- and the yobs arn't that bad however to have a completely settled night I would stay at Thorpe. It's very picturesque. You won't regret it.

I'm sure that Jill would have offered you a space at our moorings which are super secure becuase there's a group of us who don't go out but I think we're full up.

I hope that you enjoy your cruise.

Having read Speakers Corner, and seeing Bilgefairy's reccomendation, who I'm sure is residential moored closer to the complex, I'm not so sure that you are worrying too much.

Have only stayed in Norwich one night and although no mishaps, found the road far to noisey. I much prefer the likes of the Locks Inn.

If you like real ale pubs, have you picked up a copy of Norfolk Nips. It's the Norfolk CAMRA booklet, I picked up a copy in the Fur and Feathers.

Keith
