Hi, we have been to the Broads many time with our two sons when they were little and found the boats shower adequate for two adults and two toddlers but as the boys are now 6'4 and 6'5 hairy 14 and 15 year olds we fear the hot water will run out before we get a chance to wash! Can you tell me the boatyards names and locations where we can pay for a decent shower please? We start at Stalham and are cruising for 7 days in Whitsun week
Thanks in advance

On the northern side one of our favourite stops is the leisure centre at Horning, behind the ferry.

We normally go for a swim and shower there.

The Petersfield House used to provide hot baths, a real luxury but alas I think on that one I'm slipping back into pre-history. Such things don't seem to be done nowadays.

If you get south there are excellent facilities at WRC.

Paul

Hi Mimi

Welcome to the forum!

If you click on the "Shops & Businesses" link listed in red at the bottom of the page, under the select a category button you will find "Showers Avaialble" which will bring up a list of boatyards/pubs etc. which have this facility. I am unable to vouch for any of them personally but I'm sure that someone will be along soon to give you some good recommendations.

14 and 15 year olds at 6'4" and 6'5" !!!  You've obviously been feeding them too well!  Playful

Hope that you have a great holiday!

Carol

Hi,
The showers at Barns in Wroxham have always been spotless when I have visited plus there is another lesuire centre at moores over the road with a nice little pool and showers. would only recomend this though if you are using the pool as it is about £3 per person, stay as long as you want.
Think I may have read something about it being private boats only now though and not sure whether there are any visitors morings private or hire.

If you're down south the Reedham Ferry has the nicest and cleanest showers on the Broads - and they're free!

Actually, this has reminded me of something I was meaning to ask about. A couple of years ago we decided to have a change from the Broads and hire a yacht on the Caledonian Canal (which is lovely, but not the greatest place if you actually want to put the sails up).

One of the things that impressed me most though was that British Waterways had built shower and toilet blocks at many of the moorings, which were free to use as long as you had the appropriate key, and in very good condition.

I know that effectively they're paid for by tolls, and that BW has the advantage of already owning the land they're built on, but OTOH they certainly made my holiday a lot more enjoyable, and I'll be looking a lot harder at holidays on BW managed waterways as a result.

Getting back to the original point of this thread, I used to remember the showers at the Lion at Thurne Mouth as being pretty good, but haven't used them in 5 or 6 years. I do also remember swimming (with my two younger siblings) in an enormous cast iron bath at Oulton Broad in 1982 (when I was 5).
