I was going to post this in the Boat Owners Q&A forum but I figured it would actually be of some use (perhaps more) to hirers than seasoned owners so I've put it here.

Basically, fed up with battling a GEO Projects map with a life of its own, I've created the following file which contains a table of the average cruising times between potential destinations on the broads.  It is based on the one on the GEO Projects map, but with a few corrections.  It should print off perfectly on A4 and is dead easy to follow as columns and rows are coloured to make them easy to read.  You can then put the print off in a plastic wallet or laminate it (if you're super keen) and it should be much easier to keep handy for reference than a tiny table in the corner of an enormous fold out map.

Hope this is useful to somebody.  Corrections / suggestions welcome.

Cheers Simon, would you mind if I placed a copy in the downloads section?

Not at all - it would be an honour Smile
In fact I checked there first before doing it.

Just a small point, but you've got the time from Acle to Reedham as 4 hours, but the time from Stracey Arms to Reedham, which is closer, as 8 hours. Should that read 3??

Simon,

Sorry but your chart is all wrong.

As a seasoned cruiser round the broads I can tell you that Acle to Cantley is approx 10 mins not the 5 hours you quote.

Out onto the A47 and turn left at the White House, even for the slower cruisers amongst us it should take no more than 15 minutes.

Good piece of work, very handy

Gary

PS What is the wind strength for sailies to achieve these times?

Stuart,

You are quite right.  I have checked the source chart and the information was copied correctly but the source material was wrong!  There were several such errors on the original which were corrected as we went but that one appears to have slipped through.  Well spotted!

Based on other cruising times displayed 3.25 would be a more accurate figure and I have amended it in the copy attached.

Oh and Gary.... speaking as someone who has holidayed on the broads many times in the past but only this year actually started getting from place to place by car it can come as quite a shock how close some of these places are to each other.  I mean, on a boat, Acle and Brundall feel like they're at opposite ends of the Earth but driving along the A47 there goes one and oh, suddenly there's the other.  It comes as quite a surprise the first time!
