Hello, we stayed in the Broads 3 years ago and loved it. In autumn there were enough moorings and there were some nice berths that were rather quiet. We are now considering renting a boat at short notice for the summer. Are there enough mooring places or is it possible that you won't find any and is it more party atmosphere in summer or are there also quiet places? Many thanks for your help Svenja

It rather depends on your requirements. If pubs are your thing then perhaps you will have problems. If you have to have 240v mains power then perhaps you might struggle. If you have an open mind and a go-everywhere boat then life will be good! Jolly Roger

Hi Sven there is always a mooring available it just might not be Where you want it, as regards partying it's not like Magerluf, southern rivers a quieter than North an ones, be prepared to open a tin of soup. John

Hi there , You don't mention what part of summer you're going , but if it is in the school summer period, it may be busy at moorings, more so northern boards side , due to some moorings have now been removed or some closed due to poor dangerous moorings awaiting repair , but please remember you can moor in any hireboat yards for free if you can't find a mooring ,good luck and enjoy

Thank you very much for your answers. That was very helpful. We are very open where to go, so it sounds we will find a place. It will be between 12 to 19 July, so I think its in school vacation. We are very happy to come back to the broads. Thanks for the help and greetings from Germany. Svenja

And don't forget that thing at the front of the boat, on a rope, which you can chuck over!! I rarely use bank moorings overnight, preferring my own boring company and the peace and quiet on a mudweight - up north anyway!

Wild moorings....We used to regularly visit the broads with a hire boat, now after a gap of almost 20 years visit once more. An observation is that there do not seem to be as many wild moorings as before. For example there used to a number a little inlets on the river Ant that you could "nose" into, these are now largely overgrown. Most people spend more time and energy going around problems than in trying to solve them. Henry Ford
