Thanks Andy for your positive update and clarification. Also Paladine for the point about the swimmers. Ive never seen any, maybe because my trips are usually in early or late season, but caution is worthwhile.
Cheers, Johnboy

This came up any years ago when like Karen I thought there was a sign by the last of the pubs. I was advised of my error by the forum and on checking found that the restriction had been removed. Where I think Karen makes a good point is that some of the current marketing aps used by the bigger hire yards do not make it clear where boats must stop. Richardsons for example says Coltishall but on the map shows the common area with the bit to the lock marked as unnavigable. Not a problem but a bit confusing. What would happen if a Richardsons cruiser became weeded up by the norfolk mead. Would they be covered by Richardsons recovery or would they be charged because they had gone off piste. Graham.

Just a quick point about wild swimming. Coltishall, at both sides of the lock is attracting more swimmers than was the case, however Caen meadow is far busier for swimmers of all ages, and both areas are all year round. Not for me, I try my best to stay dry at all times

As well as swimmers, Coltishall is now a busy spot most summer evenings for paddleboarders and canoes, despite the common having a clear sign which prohibits the launching or retrieving of canoes etc. Every evening we've been there this last couple of years there is an abundance of folk coming and going - pumping up boards and then later shocking small children and elderly bench sitting locals with the loud noise when they first let the air out again. It sounds like a lorry tyre and definately makes you jump! Last week I watched 3 people getting in the water at the back of a boat which had its engine running. Another group had no life jackets. A couple had a baby / very young toddler with them. The kid was wearing a life jacket but the adults were not, and they had been out paddle boarding with the child on the board. I happened to engage in conversation with one couple and mentioned river tolls. They had no idea that they had to have one, and they were from the area ! They'd been paddleboarding every week through last summer too. Yet another case of "rules, what rules?" and "We didn't know" so that's our excuse. "Somebody should have told us" Ah the joys of the nannied generations.... "Wind up the elastic band Karen - we're setting off!!"

Speaking of Kayaking. Saw this and my first thought was 'Oh Yes , I am sure'. Dont forget your cooler. Yes again, but what are you supposed to do with it. Surely it is not a sealed lid. Hope you are taking notes Paul. https://youtu.be/hnGjPUfOyvc

" Last week I watched 3 people getting in the water at the back of a boat which had its engine running." It makes you wonder why bother doing these handover trails , sign of sheets , great start to the season recently,
