What facilities now exist at the staithe or is it still best to walk into the village?

hi all ,
personally we prefer the nice walk up the lane to throwers village store to get our food supplies and to go the the pub " kings arms "the butchers are great too and nothing is to much trouble as he has most stuffout the back , also we enjoy a ice cream when the ice cream van comes round in the evening or even better in the summer when they come round and sell strawberries .
cheers

steve and vicky

Throwers is an excellent store. A bonus of hiring from Hunters is that it's so well placed for the last minute shop, and I'd second the opinion on the butchers. It seems that the best Broads butchers are in places beginning with "L", Ludham or Loddon.

I've walked past the Staithe shops many times (we never moor at the staithe, as mooring at Hunters is nicer, but it's sail only) and I've never found a reason to stop when the village shops are so much better.

Agree 100%...a walk into Ludham from the staithe is too much of a privilege to be missed IMHO.

Beautiful, typically English lane and an idyllic village with a shop (Throwers) which seems to sell anything and everything. Mr Gower is also an excellent butcher...can't wait to get some more of his smoked bacon...oh yes indeedy!

Supermarkets...get rid of your nasty wet, tasteless bacon and learn from a real master butcher!

John

Actually, that reminds me...

A few years ago we were talking to a Scottish couple who, on every visit to the Broads, made a point of taking back FOUR huge cool boxes packed to the gills with meat from Mr Gower.

Says it all really don't you think?

John

The butcher in Horning is very good too.  A lot of the meat comes from his own farm.

Speaking of butchers.....we always stock up with loads of things from the guy in Loddon ....never seen a range like it for marinaded meats and speciality sausages and bacon.

I totally agree with above comments. The staithe is nice, but Ludham is one of the best villages on the Broads, and so easy to get to - no muddy overgrown paths. The store is excellent, as is the butchers, the pub friendly and welcoming (with good food) - long may they all continue!
