Thanks for providing a valid link. I hope that folk enjoy the video, it provides an insight into a 'proper' boat building yard rather than a boat manufacturing factory. BBB rebuilt the top of a mast for my daughter's river cruiser, their workmanship was absolutely superb. St Olaves has become something of a centre for wooden boat building, not just BBB but also South River Marine are based there. Either would be my choice if I had a 'woody' needing work done on her.

Have just watched the video again. Amazing to think that in years well gone by the wherry builders had no access to the power tools that we use today. They were amazing people!

Yes but remember they did not laminate them - they grew them! And trees grow round!! Cannot remember where exactly but somewhere Costessey way there was an area where they grew them and as they grew, they cut the branches off, to stop knots forming, so they were able to use whole trees - you cannot import whole trees now as they don't fit containers. Probably banned now as well given they grow in certain colder climes!! Albion had the first laminated mast built, probably 10 years ago now and it still looks as good as new. Despite expectations to the contrary traditional skills still exist, albeit the numbers involved are reduced!!

Try the second link, and, as the young lady said to the Bishop, it works for me! Oh no it doesn't, said the thankful maiden! Jolly Roger

Marshman, if you manage to find out where in/around Costessey that way, I'd be interested to know. I'm currently the chairman of Costessey Town Council.
BSS examinations available from me until 31st March 2018
