Some may know about this already but if not then some onfo here Red diesel and biofuels to become illegal for most vehicles Most businesses will be forced to switch from rebated red diesel and biofuels to taxed white diesel from 1st April 2022 onwards. This is to promote the use of more sustainable fuels and encourage energy-efficient ways of doing business. Rebated red diesel will only be allowed for agriculture, horticulture, fish farming, forestry, rail and non-commercial heating system users. This won’t affect users of pleasure boats, though. The 60/40 split will still apply. See https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/966132/Summary_of_responses_to_the_red_diesel_consultation.pdf para 4.7 on page 16.
Been hit by another boat? Report the incident to the Marine Accident Investigation Branch’s dedicated accident reporting line on 023 8023 2527 which is monitored 24 hours a day. Help to make the Broads safer.

red diesel has a chemical marker, as well as the obvious colour difference, in the case of a road vehicle using red illegally and then switching to white to conceal this action, the evidence of red is easy to trace. as boats were able to use red or white, how will this be implemented? are we to expect rangers or dot inspectors to seize boats that they suspect are using the wrong fuel.
my appearance is down to me, my attitude is down to you.

It will enforced the same way it has since it started, not at all. HMRC never wanted it for boats it was eu insistance, there was no extra funds to police it and would cost more than it recovered. Red is still allowed in boats it's purely down to receipts to show you've paid the extra duty on the percentage used for propulsion and liveaboards can still claim almost all is for domestic use. The raate of 60/40 was only ever a figure hmrc said it wouldn't contest, you can still declare whatever percentage you like if you think you can justify it. Dave. Formerly 'LeoMagill'
