Having spent 3 hrs out on the river today in glorious winter's sunshine, we came across this operation while motoring along Fleet Dyke. It's a cut just passed the northern end of the EA straight moorings and leads westwards . . . . towards Malthouse ? Any one have any ideas ?

Not quite an ancient mariner ...... though some say he was at sea before Pontius was a pilate !
Looking at the area on Google Earth, there is a network of drainage dykes, so perhaps it a long-overdue dyke clearing operation.

That was dredged about 15 years ago. I have been up there through the undergrowth a number if times on my canoe. It was very shallow and at times would bottom out. Wild life was great an could get onto the bank and walk ashore. I do have some videos I took from the canoe on YouTube somewhere.
I cruise on THE NORFOLK BROAD as I can not cruise on something that is NOT.
Hylander, if you look at the Google Earth image I posted you'll see a motor cruiser underway, heading towards the Broad. Just above and to the left of the cruiser, there are two dark lines heading into the reedbeds. I think the lower of those two lines is the dyke that's being dredged.
ncsl, thank you for the link to the video. It just goes to show how easy it is to open up these dykes. It's a pity the Broads No-Authority don't regard Crome's Dyke as being important enough to keep open!

As has been said it links up to the dykes on the eastern side of the Cator kingdom. It leads up to wards a little Broad like "pond" in fact used as a flight pond
These dykes are regularly cleared out otherwise it would all flood and stay flooded! A few years ago they did the other main one further downstream towards St Benets.
