Greybeard, its exhausting to continuously read the stuff you are spouting.

You central thesis, that "Governments" are up to something, but only a small number of free-thinking people like yourself can spot it, is abject nonsense.

The fact that you are a small minority doesn't make you "free-thinkers" it just makes you wrong.

One of the unintended consequences of social media is that in the past you would have been sat at home coming to your false conclusions and no one would ever have known. Now you go online and you find that there are other people who are just as worng as you and this leads yo to believe there is a community of "free thinkers"
In fact its just a statistical blip, because in a population of billions there are always groups who are wrong about everything.

It could also be said of social media,
lies and misinformation can be rapidly exposed whereas pre social media folks sat at home in total ignorance.

again I reiterate, I have not resorted to personal attacks on anyone here, or claimed to be right or wrong about anything.
merely suggesting there is more than one viewpoint.

what you or anyone chooses to believe is down to them personally, and somewhat reliant on which information [if any],  they look at.

It has been quite commonplace to "cancel" debate or alternate opinions,on any number of subjects far beyond covid,  even those supported by facts, as being labeled as ",,,ists, isms, or conspiracy nut jobs.

your reference to sitting at home drawing the wrong conclusions seems to be alive and well in spite of extensive media to refer to and form an individual conclusion.
listening to rock and roll and not jazz doesn't mean you're "anti music"
believe what you like, it doesn't bother me as much as it seems to affect you.

my appearance is down to me, my attitude is down to you.

Debate is part of the democracy we supposedly live in.
I can understand Greybeard's view along with the alternative viewpoints forwarded. It does not make either of them wrong, they are personal opinions and everyone, in the UK at least, is allowed to have one.

However, we currently have a blind panic vaccination programme on the go whereby medical professionals have been told by HMG to effectively park all other medical treatments (at what future cost in lives?) to concentrate on one virus and its mutations. We are told this is important to prevent the spread of the virus. These vaccines reduce the symptoms of the virus which is a good thing and why I chose for myself, without mandate, to accept them but they DO NOT prevent you becoming infected and spreading it around and no certificate, mobile app or passport, call it what you will, shall stop that. Only common sense will help prevent transmission and as we often say on this very forum, common sense unfortunately, is not that common!

But the vaccine does reduce the likelyhood of you passing it on if you are infected, someone coughing and sneezing will spread far more than someone not, and the vaxed person will likely have a far lower viral load to spread.

Who should I believe, the educated, scientific community or the various anti-vaxxers, libertarians and conspiracy theorists on the web who, by and large, obtain their muddled thinking from other muddled thinkers?

The only sure way to prevent the virus from spreading is for everyone to be isolated until the virus has died a natural death.

Unfortunately:
a) No one can live like that, we need to obtain food, for example.
b) The country could not afford to close down all business.
c) If Mr Johnson & Co cancel Christmas (or Holiday Period for those that wish to remain European)for the second consecutive year it shall be political suicide.

It is no conspiracy theory, the virus shall spread like all other viruses do and we can only do our best to slow the dispersion by minimising transmission risk. Taking your vaccine passport with an infinite number of stamps on it down the pub or off to the restaurant/theatre is not doing that!

As for the uninformed, the government scientists are only guessing. No one yet knows the full consequences of what is unfolding.

So my wife and I will be staying at home for the foreseeable future venturing out only in case of an absolute emergency. I do have a heart though and I feel really sorry for the postmen and delivery drivers bringing supplies to me without the opportunity to avoid contact with others and therefore risking themselves.

Jolly Roger.

Let me start by saying, I have had all 3 vaccines, Im in favour of Covid passports and believe that the Government should crack down on people who don't follow the rules. Saying that I would say your statement above JR is very ill informed. There are  many very well educated scientists and 8rdinary citizens who believe that the current handling of the Covid outbreak is inept at the best. One thing that is for cetain is that Governments are using the current crisis to bring in laws that impinge on our Freedoms, they are also using it for financial gain for their contacts. This has been proven.
The biggest gainer from this epidemic is China, many leading epidemiologist are confident that this virus is man made and that the way the virus is mutating adds weight to this argument. This view is being quashed by Governments around the World because they are afraid 8f Chinas power. As a nation we should be boycotting all Chinese goods and at Govermental level we should be seeking recompense.

Beardy, I highly recommend watching a documentary that was on Netflix called the Social Dilemma, it will show you how Social media is designed to feed your ego, if you have a particular point of view, the algorithms will ensure you receive posts, news and articles which reinforce your beliefs, someone who has opposite views will receive totally different feeds. Another programme worth watching is David Baddiels Social media, anger and us. It was on BBC2 the other night. There are several other good programmes and a lot written about this area of our life and the general consensus is that people are a commodity to be sold and exploited by Social Media and the internet in general.
