Hardly the Local Council's fault that the contractor who was working on the bridge went into administration this summer and they have had to find another company who is able to work on this antique!
I worked for George Prior engineering many years ago and speaking to the engineers who serviced the workings ,it sounds like a museum exhibit and a lot of the machinery is below river level I believe, it would certainly be interesting to see. Adrian
Sounds like you do not live in the area and appreciate how important Haven bridge is, and shall remain to be, for road users and pedestrians! That is why they are spending millions upgrading it despite spending many more millions on the new bridge to nowhere.
All three bridges in GY are needed. The third river crossing is part of major investment into the outer harbour which has proved to be very successful, despite what many folk seem to think. It is indeed unfortunate that the Haven bridge is so problematic but let's hope the repairs provide a longer term solution.
Its not surprizing that a steel bridge near to the sea is subject to corrosion and being able to lift just makes it more so, and as for removing it! completely impracticable. John
Just when we were beginning to hear that Haven bridge will be operational early'22 we learn that the lifting span of Breydon Bridge will not lift between Feb and end of June '22.

How ridiculous haven been out for 18months you would have thought Breydon would have sorted any maintenance during this time but that does involve brain power which seems to be lacking in Yarmouth
