I'm not convinced they actually want to fix it, luckily I can get under half tide or lower and usually plan my timing for it.

From the EDP, last July:

As expected, the comprehensive upgrade work has revealed age-related problems with the bridge such as the lifting gears and original drive shafts.

This now means that engineers will need to carry on the upgrade over the summer months and 'potentially into the autumn.'

It didn't mention autumn in which year though.

Been hit by another boat? Report the incident to the Marine Accident Investigation Branch’s dedicated accident reporting line on 023 8023 2527 which is monitored 24 hours a day.  Help to make the Broads safer.

Hardly the Local Council's fault that the contractor who was working on the bridge went into administration this summer and they have had to find another company who is able to work on this antique!

I worked for George Prior engineering many years ago and speaking to the engineers who serviced the workings ,it sounds like a museum exhibit  and a lot of the machinery is below river level I believe, it would certainly be interesting to see.
