As expected, the comprehensive upgrade work has revealed age-related problems with the bridge such as the lifting gears and original drive shafts.
This now means that engineers will need to carry on the upgrade over the summer months and 'potentially into the autumn.'
It didn't mention autumn in which year though.

Hardly the Local Council's fault that the contractor who was working on the bridge went into administration this summer and they have had to find another company who is able to work on this antique!
I worked for George Prior engineering many years ago and speaking to the engineers who serviced the workings ,it sounds like a museum exhibit and a lot of the machinery is below river level I believe, it would certainly be interesting to see. Adrian
