The MAIB have published an interim report into the fatal incident at GY last August. I have a feeling that the hire industry and the BA might come in for some criticism when the full report is published.

At least we will now get some serious consideration of the risks .

Looking at the initial findings I wonder if it indicates full guard rails and compulsory life lines as well as restrictions on dual steer cruisers

Judging by some of the behaviour we have seen this year I doubt that much has changed.
We have noticed that there appears to be increased ranger patrols, but there needs to be interaction with the public to provide guidance and advice.
As for handovers, it is still churn them out as fast as they can. Sorry if this sounds negative.

There is still no sign of the full MAIB report, but the inquest, having been reviewed on 4 November, has now been postponed to 10 February 2022.

Been hit by another boat? Report the incident to the Marine Accident Investigation Branch’s dedicated accident reporting line on 023 8023 2527 which is monitored 24 hours a day.  Help to make the Broads safer.

I don't see how criticising the hirers, or ba will prevent future devastating incidents such as this,,
for example If I hire a car and drive it into a tree fatally injuring a passenger,it can not be expected to be blamed on the hire company, and assuming the vehicle was fit for purpose and free from known defects, how could they be held responsible in any way, Everyone who drives a motor vehicle is expected to have passed a stringent test, and have a current mot, in addition to insurance, before taking to the road.  but in spite of all this,,, accidents still happen
as redken has pointed out, despite the obvious chances of a fatal accident occurring.
people still take chances, and as has been proven in this case,, fatalities occur.

not in reference to this particular case that we are aware of.
but we saw a recent video of another crashed boat where alcohol clearly played a major part,, fortunately in that case nobody died,,, but that may have easily not been the case.

Is there really anyone out there that believes the broads will be a safer/better  place when it becomes so restrictive it's nigh on impossible to do anything resembling enjoyment due to over reactive precautions in an attempt to prevent a potential mishap.

mishaps, accidents, and injuries, some fatal, will always happen. no amount of legislative measures or finger pointing will alter that.

my appearance is down to me, my attitude is down to you.

Think the biggest change will be hand and Guard rails. At the moment there is nothing on that design to stop you walking  / slipping /falling down the stairs at the back and carrying on straight into the water..
I've always thought that design particularly dangerous.
