I am sounding out the various pages and forums to find out if there would be any interest in setting up a new association or vintage wooden boats, for owners, admirers and anyone interested in wooden boats of the Broads. If there is enough interest, I would be happy (with help) to set up a new association. Please let me now if you are interested.

I think there is still one around all be it may be more informal. I believe its run by a member on here Janet Anne? But theyve not been on for a while, I believe they post and arrange things through another forum. They seem to have at least one meeting per year, mid August in Beccles.

if it is to be it is up to me.

Thanks for this. I am aware of a meeting in Beccles. The said meeting is a gathering of 'friends' who have wooden boats. It is not, I am informed, an actual wooden boat association My aim is to find out if there are wooden boat owners and/or admirers, who would like to form or re-form an association.

I'm a bit confused the V.W.B.A which was started I thought on the Broads but expanded to other locations had at one time around 900 members so was rather more than a bunch of friends. I see that their site address as I knew it, seems not to work anyone know what has happened?

The original Vintage wooden boat association folded a few years ago. I am now seeing if there is enough interest in starting something similar up again. I am well aware that a group of friends meet in Beccles with their wooden boats. I am thinking about offering to re-start a wooden boat association, rather than a group of friends meeting once per year. If there is enough interest, which is what I am asking, I will put something together and see how people respond.

If that is the case I cannot help think that getting some of the wooden River Class yachties involved might be a key.

Hi NeilandNat, I was editor of the VWBA magazine for a number of years, it was a pretty thankless task, plenty of members complained of the lack of content but would never submit articles. Over a short space of time there were lots of little cliques being formed and talking behind backs etc, and the whole point of the association somehow got lost. My love of wooden boats remain and I still regularly restore, refurbish and research their history, and many of my friends have wooden boats. An enthusiastic couple did show some interest in reforming the association but that fizzled out.

We are certainly enthusiastic and have our own wooden boat. The aim is to set up an open association for anyone interested in Broads wooden boats (sailing or motor). In time, there would be a democratically elected and time limited, small committee. Hopefully, this group would not become a clique. We would not be a direct or indirect part of any forum. However, we would hope forums would promote the association.
At this stage, we are simply asking for a general note of interest. Please post a simple "yes", if you are interested. Thanks

Hi there , if we had a wooden boat I'd be interested, but if you are on Facebook it may pay to start a group or club on there and see how it progresses ,
