I am not suggesting for one moment that all users of Day Boats are inept, but perhaps by the very nature of the way day-hire works, they may attract a greater proportion of those with less boating sense than other types of craft (although one can see shortcomings in all sorts of boaters, so let's not start that comparison just now).

However, this weekend, I did see behaviour which I considered particularly foolish.  There was a day-boat traveling up the Ant on Sunday, towing a person in the water behind them;  that person was sort-of sitting in/on a life-ring.  I just hope they didn't need to go astern to stop too suddenly.

To be honest, I didn't think it was worth remonstrating with them, nor even reporting them to the Boatyard or Broads Control  -  what could they actually have done?  I just made sure I kept clear and let them carry on their unconventional way.

Many moons ago, before the advent of nanny big brother, it was quite a common occurrence but in those days people took responsibility for their own safety.

Hands up all those who have NEVER done anything stupid...I know I have LOL

Hot weather is often a catalyst for fun...lots of fun things are stupid and dangerous. That’s life.

Personally, I’d be much more concerned with the reality of 40+ foot, multi-tonne vessels in the hands of certain types of irresponsible people who’ve had 4 minutes of instruction before being unleashed on the rest of the river community. That is scary.  Scared

"...before the advent of nanny big brother..."

I'm not familiar with that model, but I do know someone who's in the market for a decent second-hand nanny twin cylinder, if anyone's got one they no longer need.
