I'm overnight on Fair Aristocrat atm at Norwich YS. Looking to put a shirt in tomorrow to get downriver and in position for a short hop on low tide tomorrow to Brayden Water Friday morning.

Anyone got any views about my chances of getting moored at Oulton as its race day tomorrow. I think I can reasonably get there by 3pm but would like a little leeway.

We crossed to the South 2 days ago and so far have stopped at Loddon (loved the staithe and the common) a lay over just outside Norwich at the Commisioners Cut and got to Norwich this morning. If not Oulton Broad then any other suggestions for our last night on the South rivers?

Thanks

Reedham is always good with a trip to the ship a must, if you want a close to breydon spot burgh castle is ok but for a beer after 10.00 you need to wander into belton to the kings head.
Or st.olaves for a visit to the bell or even better a walk up through waveney forest to the decoy tavern at fritton(cheapest pub around & good food).
Oulton broad is hardly a close stop for breydon unless of course you plan to go through mutford and back by the outside route....(don't even think about it!)

If you don't like what I say don't hurl abuse at the boat, I've sold it...

As LM says Oulton is not exactly close to Breydon, it's a good couple of Hours cruising but well worth a visit if you can still make GY in good time for the  tide. You can pre book a spot at Oulton Yacht Station by phone or there are moorings at the Wherry and at the Commodore which always seems to have space if the other 2 are full.

Recommend you ring Oulton broad yacht station to book a mooring , it's about 2 hrs from Oulton broad to breydon water ,  the yacht station has information  with tide times for the day and the harbour master will help with what time you'll need to leave on Friday to get to northern broads , very helpfull chaps ,

So does anyone know what time they close the broad to traffic for the racing?

An extract from B.A document.

"The Broads Authority will continue to work with Oulton Broad harbour master, and the power boat club to ensure that two patrols are provided to ensure safe transit of the broad for other users during power boat racing events and continue where necessary to restrict boat movements while a race is being undertaken"

The Broad doesn't shut as such but you have to pass down the Port bank and take instruction from the Marshals.

Thanks. Just spoke to YS and no space today.  So I think I'll mud weight on the broad for the racing and head out somewhere nearby to moor. Any suggestions where?

Somerleyton is a nice spot, pub just up the track, if no facilities required dutch tea gardens is quite nice.
Failing that head back towards previous suggestions.
