Just had a near miss. The exhaust roar on my Ebo D5 was getting on my wick, so I thought I'd order a silencer off ebay. When it arrived, I found it was not gas tight, and should only be fitted externally, specifically outside trucks or motor homes. This wasn't mentioned in the listing. Anyone else thinking of fitting a silencer, please ensure you get a MARINE one. Don't need any tragic asphyxiations.

Regards, Ray.

Good post Ray. Perhaps you could pass the details on to forum member Rob@BSSOffice and he could make the wider boating community aware.

This issue was discussed briefly at our last ABSE meeting, and I think it's fair to say that it's one of a number of issues with fitting non-marine Eberspacher heaters into boats.

Although obviously I can't go into detail about what was discussed, I can certainly say that by far the safest advice is to stick to equipment that is specifically marketed for use on boats, and ensure it's fitted according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Who's complaining? I just thought I'd warn people these things are out there. Nothing wrong with eBay, just research what you're looking at - as I didn't! Frown

No complaint noted within that post just some good common sense advice.
