Well, I had a quick trip down to Norfolk yesterday, left at 6 am and was in Brundal for just before 9, Andorra was out on the hard and I had a good look around her and agreed a few small jobs with the yard prior to her going back in which should be around the 16th of April, too late for Easter but we will be down then anyway.
Went over to Horning and had Breafast at the Staithe and Willow which was delicious and very reasonable, it was my first time in there since the new people had taken over and I was very impressed, the place is bright and clean the food we had was excellent the new menu was less fussy than the old one and I guess they are trying to compete with the Swan with offers such as 2 for a tenner, sad to see that the draught beers had gone but they have a reasonable selection of bottled ales and lagers plus a decent selection of wines all at sensible prices.
If I had a choice of there or the Swan I would choose the S&W every time.
Had a quick look at the New Inn and the menu looks interesting, I wish the new owners all the best.
There were a few Hire boats out, even Brooms had a couple out this week and several were being prepared for next week, had a drive up to Lathems for a couple of bit and pieces before leaving for the drive home. The weather was great and I can't wait to get afloat this year.

Its good to have one of those whistle stop / catch up after winter trips isn't it TT!?  We came down end of January but I was ill all weekend and didn't leave the botel room much, not even for dinner Frown   so I am desperate for a Norfolk fix now Smile

I also always love the very first trip up river after the boat has been de-winterised, usually Easter or just before. Everything is waking up and bursting into life and I like to spot any changes that have occurred over the winter. Can't wait. Especially as I have spent a fair bit of time stuck inside recently due to illness and the need to keep warm.

Just to pick up on your comments - has the New Inn changed hands again ? Since last year? And is the current Staithe and Willow owner the lady who took over when the younger chap and his Mum left? We used to enjoy the place in the days before them when it was more of a teashop and less of a bistro. So perhaps we need to put it back on the list.

I understand the Galley in Horning has also recently changed hands, just in the last few weeks, so feedback from any members visiting would be useful. I assume it is continuing in the same sort of format, but then maybe somebody else knows better....

We are down in a  couple of weeks and also at Easter. Yippeee.

All the best, Karen

Hi Karen, I've not been North for a couple of years so both the S&W and the New Inn are the people you mention, new to me but not entirely new.
The Staithe has got a much simpler menu than the previous people and as I said it looks to have been designed to compete with the Swan rather than a bistro type experience and the breakfst we had was good quality, nicely cooked and good value.
The Galley has been sold and I understand that maybe it is changing somewhat, they have apparently applied for an extension to their drinks license which suggest to me that they may be going down the Bistro Avenue. It will be interesting how it works out, the home made goods were the main attraction for us (and many others I'm certain), if they are no longer available...

Thanks Dave for the additional info. We will def try the Staithe and Willow especially for a good hearty breakfast as doing a full english is sometimes not worth the effort for just the two of us on a small boat - we usually just cook bacon and mushroom for rolls or have an omelette. But I do love a full English, especially when served up to me. Naughty but nice. Actually not that naughty because we then don't bother with much for lunch as it sees us through to the evening.

Horning deli homemade  items were always lovely. Shame if they are not to continue. Some scrumptious items for an easy summer on board meal with new potatoes and a bit of salad.

We are in Horning soon so will post back any further info.

Take care, and look out for us if you are around on the Northerns when you are landlubbing over Easter.

Karen
