Hi.
Forgive if in wrong forum but since we are going very early season, I noticed the yacht stations are unmanned so does that mean we cant use them?
Visiting great Yarmouth is out then if so.
Reedham as a source of water is gone and how do we stand with Beccles.
Thanks in advance

Roll away the stone.

To be honest I'm not sure if you are allowed to moor at Yarmouth if the Yacht Station is officially closed but I'm sure some one will be along shortly to enlighten you but if you want to visit Yarmouth you could always moor at Acle and get the bus or a Taxi or if your on the South moor at Brundal and get the train. Other places such as Stalham are on bus routes to GY and the fares are pretty reasonable. Or you could consider going by car either on your first day or on your way home
Unless I was passing through GY to cross from one side to the other I wouldn't make the journey to GY by boat anyway, it's not the prettiest stretch of river and it's a long old haul either from Acle on the North or Reedham or St Olaves on the South.
I like a day/night in GY but would not really want to over night there.

hi there ,
gt yarmouth station closes from the 31/10/14 round till end of march 2015 , also baring in mind that oulton board yacht station gets a bit full of boats that get moored up for the winter , and not manned ,
don't know if the hireboat rule is still in place for those yards that still hire over the winter period ,but it was no cruising past acle bridge at one time , but as said don't know if that is still in place for hireboats northern side ,

Snodland_Smalls hi,

Yarmouth Yacht Station - As has been stated No mooring is allowed at out of season which is from November 1 to Easter.  Apparently “no mooring” signs are put out and the quay becomes the responsibility of the local council whilst out of season.

Reedham Quay – Although unmanned from November 1 to Easter it is ok to moor all year round but you will find the water hoses removed. They do sometimes leave one hose operational by the main hut.

Beccles and Oulton Broad Yacht station – These are open for mooring all year round but only manned from 08:00 to 14:00 from November 1 to Easter.
They are not B.A but run by Sentinel Leisure Trust.

All the above has been confirmed by the relevant authorities.

Kind Regards
Alan...

And what about pubs, restaurants etc?  We have our first boat and have been up every weekend since the 3rd September and plan to continue this and spend Christmas Day onboard.

Is there a community as such in and around the broads?

I'm looking forward to having a bimble up the river over Christmas  Smile

Where are you based Heidi? I know most of the pubs on the Yare stay open, some such as the Reedcutters do a reduced menu but for others it's business as usual.

Ludham village is open for business all year round. Not so Ludham Bridge.
